Hello, my name is Deeksha Mishra
and I am traveling to Costa Rica this summer. I will be traveling with the SPI
Study Abroad Program to explore the lush rainforest of Monteverde alongside
other students. It is my first time studying abroad and leaving the country by
myself. I am somewhat nervous but thrilled to embark on this exhilarating adventure!
When I do arrive in Costa Rica, I
will be thrilled by the different environment and feel of the country’s vibes.
I don’t know what to expect. I honestly can’t wait to meet my host family and
roommate. I want to get to know my host family so when I get back to the States,
I can still keep in touch with them and interact. I hope I learn a lot of
things in Costa Rica. It’s all too exciting and will be a lot to digest on the
first day. I am very curious as to what we will be doing and can’t wait!
As the trip progresses, I want to be able to
communicate in Spanish fluently and get to connect with the Tican people and
build wonderful relationships with the nearby community. I am so eager to help
out on the community service projects, like renovating the local school or
volunteering. There is so much to do. I am also thrilled to visit the local
supermarket and learn how to use and adjust to the Costa Rican colon. Just
exchanging a few words with a local has me pumped up. Learning how to buy stuff
may be elementary, but when you arrive in a foreign country, it’s like starting
from the bottom and every day will feel like I have achieved and experienced
something new and incredible. It will be like a whole new world. As I type
this, I am already in awe as to how much I will learn from this two week
excursion. I can’t wait to feel and explore the Costa Rican atmosphere,
sunshine, and culture.
